Our approach

QScan is provided by Qubba HQ Ltd, a company registered in Cyprus with registration number HE 499298, Zinonos Sozou 11, 3rd floor, Office 303, 1075 Nicosia, Cyprus. We want everyone to be able to use QScan, including people who use a screen reader, larger text, a keyboard, switch or voice control, or reduced motion. This statement covers this website and the QScan app for iPhone.

What QScan is and how it works

QScan checks packaged food. In the app, you point the iPhone camera at a product's barcode, or type the barcode in, and QScan shows a report: a score from 0 to 100 with a word that says what the score means, the ingredients and additives that matter, any clash with the allergies, diets, and goals you saved, and better picks from the same shelf. When a product is missing, you can photograph its label so QScan can read it. Ask Quix answers questions about a product.

QScan works without an account, with free daily limits. QScan Premium is an App Store subscription that you buy, manage, and cancel through Apple's own purchase and subscription screens. This website describes the app and carries the privacy policy, terms, legal notice, support page, and this statement.

Standard and conformance status

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and EN 301 549, the European accessibility standard for digital products and services, which is used to assess the requirements of the European Accessibility Act.

QScan is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Most of the website and app meet the standard, but some parts do not yet. They are listed under Known limitations.

What works on this website

Pages use real headings, landmarks, and labelled links and buttons, and declare their language, so screen readers can move around them. Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative images and animations are hidden from screen readers.

Every link, button, and form can be reached and used with a keyboard, and the focused item always shows a clear outline. Buttons and links meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum target size, and the main buttons and menu and footer links are at least 44 by 44 pixels.

When your device asks for reduced motion, the moving food wheels and the hero animation hold still, and so does the underwater scene on the page-not-found screen if the setting is already on when that page opens. Text can be zoomed to 200 percent, and pages fit a screen 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.

The launch updates email field is labelled for screen readers, and whether signing up worked is announced to them. The site has no time limits and plays no sound unless you turn it on.

What works in the app

Buttons, controls, and scores are labelled for VoiceOver. On a report, VoiceOver reads the score as a number out of 100 with the word for its band; in product lists it reads the score number. Swipe and long press actions also have buttons or VoiceOver actions. Ask Quix tells VoiceOver when it is thinking and reads out the answer.

Text follows the iPhone's text size setting, including the score ring on a report, and busy layouts stack instead of cutting text off at the largest sizes. Light, dark, and system appearance are available in Profile.

Scores always show a number, and reports add a word for the score band, so the meaning does not depend on colour alone. Allergen warnings are written out in full. Text and icon colours are checked automatically against the WCAG contrast minimums in light and dark appearance. Controls are designed to be at least 44 by 44 points.

When Reduce Motion is on, animations are reduced or skipped, sheets fade instead of sliding, and stories stop moving on by themselves; most screens pick up a change to the setting the next time QScan opens. You do not need the camera: you can type a barcode or search by product or brand name. QScan works without an account and has no CAPTCHA. The app plays no sounds of its own; recall alert notifications follow your iPhone's notification sound settings.

Known limitations

On the home page, the small score labels on the moving food wheels do not always meet the minimum colour contrast while they turn. They are decoration: the scores are explained in text further down the page. The launch updates email field has no visible label once you start typing; its only on-screen hint is placeholder text.

Product names, ingredients, and photos come from Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and manufacturers. Product photos have no text description; the report gives the facts that matter as text. Ingredient lists keep the spelling and abbreviations printed on the pack.

QScan reads label photos and writes Ask Quix answers with AI, and both can be wrong. If you cannot check the printed label yourself, do not rely on QScan alone for allergens: ask someone to read the label, or contact the manufacturer.

Apple's sign in, purchase, and subscription screens are provided by Apple, and the subscription offer screen is provided through Superwall. We do not control how they are built. If one of them stops you, email us and we will help you another way.

In the app, most section titles are not marked as headings, so VoiceOver's headings rotor finds few of them. On Insights, VoiceOver reads the name of the highest and lowest scoring product but not its score. Some short status messages, such as "Copied" in messages, are shown on screen but may not be read out by VoiceOver, and message notices disappear after 4 seconds.

Stories move on by themselves after 6 to 10 seconds unless VoiceOver or Reduce Motion is on. You can hold a story to pause it, but there is no pause button, and Switch Control does not stop the timer.

At the largest text sizes, some names and titles are cut short to one line, the score on a report grows to at most 1.5 times its normal size, and a few small labels, such as unread counts and initials on avatars, do not grow. The app does not yet respond to the Bold Text or Increase Contrast settings, and has no setting of its own to turn off vibration.

Photographing the label of a missing product needs the camera; you cannot choose a saved photo instead. The torch button shows "Light on" but is named "Turn torch on" for VoiceOver and Voice Control.

QScan is in English only. It is available for iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later, not for iPad or Android.

Compatibility and technology

The website relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI-ARIA, and is designed to work in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge with the screen readers people commonly use with them.

The app is built with React Native and uses the standard iOS accessibility interface that VoiceOver, Voice Control, and Switch Control rely on. It works in portrait and landscape.

How we checked

This statement is based on a self-assessment by the QScan team. On 21 October 2026 we tested every page of this website with the axe-core automated checker at desktop and phone sizes, with and without reduced motion, and checked keyboard use, zoom, reflow, and target sizes in a browser.

The app's automated tests check screen reader labels, roles, and states, text scaling, and touch target sizes on key screens, and its colour contrast is checked on every change. These findings come from the code and those tests; a full pass with VoiceOver and the largest text sizes on an iPhone is still to be done.

QScan has not yet had an independent audit or been tested by disabled users. When it has, this statement will say what was found.
